What Made Us Change How We Handle Money
After graduating with my Bachelor's degree, I married my high school sweetheart. We started off marriage with a general idea of how to pay our bills, but we were clueless about anything else. We had never created a budget before, and we didn't know how to get our finances started. Over our first two and a half years of marriage we managed to pay off our credit cards at the end of every month, as well as pay off a car loan early. We thought we were doing great... until we had to start making payments on our student loans.
In January of 2020, we received the first bill of student loan payments. We scrambled to come up with the money, but we managed to pay the balance. Immediately we applied for the extended repayment plan, and that helped relieve some of the burden. The consequence? Signing up to repay these loans over the next 25 years. However, by April of 2020 our student loans were deferred due to the pandemic.
It was during this time of financial uncertainty that I managed to get us on a budget, pay off our second car loan early, and make a plan to repay our student loans as quickly as possible. We did this by changing our habits with how we handled money, and I quickly learned that I am passionate about sharing these practices with others.
I've since become a Master Financial Coach, and have been equipped with tools and understanding to help others become more informed about their money habits, and how to help all people across all walks of life work towards achieving their financial goals.
Practicing these habits has afforded us a life where we have peace over our finances while we're working towards paying off our student loans. And I can now confidently say that we'll be able to contribute to our future childrens' formal educations, as well as living the retirement life of our dreams! More so, I'm excited to start helping you do the same, starting today!
